ÉTATS-UNIS :: One of the Biggest Republican Racial Slanders Against President Obama was Just Debunked culled from Forward Progressives :: UNITED STATES

If you listen to Republicans, many will claim that President Obama has been one of the most “divisive presidents in our nation’s history.” Yes, the party with people who, to this day, still publicly doubt his faith, have questioned his citizenship and have said he hates white people, thinks he’s been the one dividing people.

Then let’s not forget that this is the party that has Donald Trump as its presumptive nominee; the guy who’s gone out of his way to vilify just about every minority group in this country, much to the delight of millions of Republican voters.

But, yes, it’s President Obama who’s the one dividing people.

With that said, it’s not shocking that many on the right have blamed the president for a lot of the increased hostility some Americans feel toward members of our law enforcement. That shouldn’t really be surprising to anyone; Republicans have proven over the last eight years that they’ll blame basically anything negative on this president — even things that happen in other countries.

Following the recent tragedy in Dallas, it didn’t take long before many on the right began to say how terrible President Obama has been for police officers and how his “lack of support” has led to more officers being killed in the line of duty.

Of course, that’s not true — not even close.

In fact, during his time in office, we’ve seen the fewest officers killed in the line of duty of any president for the last 35 years.

Data from Officers Down Memorial (a site that tracks fatalities of members of law enforcement) has these yearly averages of how many officers were intentionally killed during the terms of each of the last five presidents spanning back to Ronald Reagan:

* Ronald Reagan: 101

* George H.W. Bush: 90

* Bill Clinton: 81

* George W. Bush: 72

* Barack Obama: 62

There’s really no way for anti-Obama people who want to believe that something he’s doing is leading to more police officers being killed, to rationally or accurately claim so based on this data taken by a non-partisan organization solely dedicated to honouring fallen officers.

Normally at this point I would write a paragraph or two breaking down the information and explaining why Republicans are full of crap in trying to blame something on President Obama — but I don’t have to. There’s nothing convoluted about this information that needs to be explained, broken down or analyzed — and it’s indisputable.

Of the last five presidents, we’ve seen the fewest number of police officers intentionally killed in the line of duty during President Obama’s time in office. That means this nonsense from the right that this president has said and done things that have led to more officers being killed is flat-out absurd.
