CAMEROUN :: Cameroon: The CPP confirms its non-participation in the parade of 20th May 2018.
© Contributor : CPP | 15 May 2018 06:24:07 | 5963The Cameroon People's Party reaffirms, as in 2016 and 2017, its non-participation in the parade of 20th May 2018. The members and supporters of the CPP will celebrate national unity by organizing meetings and gatherings to enable Cameroonians reflect on the true meaning of national unity and the best way to build it in the current context.
By renewing this decision of non-participation in the parade of May 20, 2018, the CPP remains firm and constant on the reasons invoked in 2016 as well as in 2017. Notably:
1. Our unjustified and illegal exclusion since 2011 from the parade in Yaoundé. The numerous impediments to the participation of our members both in Douala and in other cities of the country in 2012. In this instance, we had affirmed that there is only one CPP! It is not possible to accept that we will march in some cities and not in Yaounde, the capital.
2. Our protest against the multiple violations of the fundamental rights and freedoms of Cameroonians. In particular, members of opposition parties and civil society activists. Real unity is not possible while arbitrarily depriving part of the population of their fundamental rights.
3. Our protest against the management by the Government of Paul Biya of the Boko Haram crisis. By managing only the security aspects of this crisis, without addressing the root causes of poverty, marginalization and the lag in development in this part of the country, this government once again fed the sense of exclusion and division between the Grand North and the rest of the country. National unity is not possible when the basic problems of citizens do not find solutions.
4. Our protest against the management by the Government of Paul Biya of the Anglophone crisis which continues to get worse. By putting an end to dialogue, arresting activists, committing violent atrocities and limiting its responses to this crisis solely to repressive and security measures, the Government has created the conditions for a deepening civil war in the North West and South West regions today . This permanently damages the sense of belonging of certain populations to the Republic of Cameroon and is causing significant trauma in thousands of Cameroonian families.
Given the deep crises in our country and the stalemate in which Cameroonians find themselves, the Cameroon People's Party believes it is beyond urgent to implement a political transition to rebuild the state in Cameroon. This democratic political transition is the only realistic and desirable horizon for our country. It will enable us to:
1. Resolve the problems of our colonial past.
2. Redefine the relationship between the citizen and the state.
3. Redefine the form of the state.
4. Reform the Army and other law enforcement agencies (Police and Gendarmerie).
5. Redefine key systems and institutions.
6. Address the issue of the return of humanitarian and political refugees as well as that of amnesty for political prisoners.
7. Elect, after these reforms, truly legitimate leaders.
To achieve this democratic revolution, the CPP reiterates its willingness to work in synergy with other Cameroonian citizens/patriots, members or not of political organizations and civil society.
It is time to focus on the highest interests of the nation rather than individual interests or partisan approaches. The challenges facing our country are great and they demand of us greatness.
