États-Unis - July: two political conventions of high interest for the American future

July has come. America will witness a major turning point in its history. Two parties: the Democratic Party (Democrats) and the Republican Party (Republicans) will officially nominate the light bearer for their respective party. 2016 has already revealed its unusualness. Two people with two unpopular résumés have already taken a big leap toward their Party’s coronation. On the one hand, a man with a sweltering discourse has made waves all along the campaign trail. On the other hand, a woman with a sword of Damocles hanging upon her neck, threatening to end her political career at any time. But these are the cream of the crop, as revealed from the ballots. If the political system were to listen to what the general public had to say – and there is no insinuation that it does not – those two people would be nominated this month. Now the stakes are high for both Parties.

Will Donald Trump convince?

The man has defeated all predictions. That alone is a victory. Donald Trump is the man who has received all kinds of kicks from all over the place and stood still. The more they brutalized him, the stronger he became. Nobody ever thought he would make it to one month. And every step of the way pundits, political scientists, and the media found excuses after excuses why Trump was still there in the race. They made predictions and all kinds of analyses. But to no avail. Trump stood his ground and beat the spirit out of every contender from top notch politicians to first-timers. In the end, at least as of yet, he remained the only man representing the Grand Old Party (GOP), AKA Republicans.

No! Trump did not suffer martyrdom. He started it all. He started it because he committed the sin every candidate to public office commits, namely saying he was running for office. Once someone declares he or she is running for office, all the demons rise up from the abyss and charge on the hopeful pitilessly. Donald Trump committed that sin, and he is paying the price thereof. The second

sin is that he does not like political correctness. In fact, he does not like conventional morals, period. When he is expected to say, “Sorry,” Trump says, “Go to hell!” When he is expected to thank, he curses. When Trump is expected to be tolerant, welcoming, and elegant, he threatens ALL Muslims, he ignites xenophobia and appears in his misogynistic apparels. No, Trump is not a man for conventions. And the Republicans know it full well. And they dread a man that always behaves as if everybody else is an apprentice he can fire in a heartbeat. But he still wins with big numbers. Nonetheless, time will tell if the GOP in Cleveland, OH will bet on him or find a clean ass to ride upon. Either way, the Party is likely going to commit suicide.

Will Hillary convince?

Where can one start with her! She has so many baggage on her arms that she might lose them. If she didn’t have the entire Democratic Party leaders helping her, she would be forgotten as a presidential candidate. But politics is politics with its rules and norms. However, nobody in America knows what Hillary Clinton stands for nor what her core message is. Everybody knows she is running for president; that’s it.

There are many issues people can list against the woman in question, but the most prominent two are her lack of honesty and the email fight she is going through right now. The majority of Americans see her as dishonest. The media may trick people, but Gallup could not hide in February that Americans do not trust Hillary. She claims to fight crooked Wall Street if elected president but she has taken large sums of money from them. Common sense teaches us that no sane person can spit in their nursing hand; not even Hillary. She claimed to have not broken the law but at least she has broken the rules.

The major issue, at least we think, is her email issue. The former secretary of state was using her private server for official communications. Every person who has ever been hired, even as a temp, knows that you do not mix your job with your personal life. Better yet, when you are hired by the government you take an oath to protect the country. The worker’s handbook formerly forbids you

to mishandle information. As a lawyer, a former senator, a former first lady, and a secretary of state, Mrs. Clinton knew, more than anyone else, that she was willfully breaking the rules and jeopardizing the interest and the security of the country for using her personal server. But the investigation has been going so slow that, there seems to be no inculpation or exculpation anytime soon. In the meantime, the lady is boastfully returning to the White House to make history. Unless some bad luck falls on her in Philadelphia where the convention will take place for the Democrats to nominate the candidate of the Party, she is most likely going to the general election. Having Hillary lose her position as the Party nominee is still a possibility.

This is America in 2016. With Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, America is going to have an unusual president at the White House. If the Republicans end up confirming Trump, then the Party is going to have to do a hell of a job to convince the voters. The Party leaders will tell the voters why they suddenly think Trump would be a good president. They have so badly wounded him that they possibly can’t make people forget it. And of course, everybody knows that Mr. Trump cannot be controlled because he is unpredictable. The secret service will have the worst time of their career trying to contain the Donald inside the bubble. If the Democrats end up confirming Hillary, which almost will be the case, then they will have to work hard to convince the voters that she is trustworthy and why we should not think that breaking the rules makes us more attractive. The decision is this month.
