The United Socialist Democratic Party has, over the past four months, followed the on-going crisis in the Anglophone Regions of Cameroon with keen interest. We have observed with profound concern the nonchalant manner in which this crisis is being handled by Mr. Biya’s administration. During this period, we have written to various stakeholders and international organizations calling their attention to the gross violation of human rights, killing, and other unlawful acts perpetrated against the people.  

While we continue to insist that a government of the people, by the people and for the people should be ready and willing to negotiate the form of the nation with the people, we out-rightly reject and condemn all calls for separation and/or secession as a solution. Cameroon’s problems are found in the Constitution and the failure of the current regime to create national institutions that are stronger than individuals. Thus, as a people, united in purpose and genuine in our love of the cradle of our forefathers, we can solve the problems facing us and build a stronger and better Cameroon for our children and the children of their children. The USDP is committed to the construction of a new nation where there is deep and candid love of fatherland and the equitable enjoyment of the promise enshrined in our National Anthem. 

We are in solidarity with the courageous struggle of Cameroonian lawyers and teachers, and deeply regret their arrest. We therefore ask for their unconditional release, because in our view the actions they have taken are primarily political, not criminal, or failing that, a fair and equitable trial which we are convinced will emerge victorious.

Nous, Parti Socialiste Démocratique Uni, « United Democratic Socialist Party » condamnons tout type de séparatisme dans notre pays bien-aimé, le Cameroun. 

Au cours des quatre derniers mois, le Parti social-démocrate uni a suivi avec vivacité la crise en cours dans les régions anglophones du Cameroun. Nous avons observé avec une profonde inquiétude la façon nonchalante dont la gestion de cette crise est gérée par l'administration de M. Biya. Au cours de cette période, nous avons écrit à diverses parties prenantes et organisations internationales appelant l'attention sur la violation flagrante des droits de l'homme, les meurtres et autres actes illégaux perpétrés contre le peuple.

Alors que nous continuons d'insister pour qu'un gouvernement du peuple, par le peuple et pour le peuple soit prêt et disposé à négocier la forme de la nation avec le peuple, nous condamnons à juste titre tous les appels à la séparation et à la sécession comme solution. Les problèmes du Cameroun se trouvent dans la Constitution et l'échec du régime actuel à créer des institutions nationales plus fortes que les individus. Ainsi, en tant que peuple, unis dans un but et authentique dans notre amour du berceau de nos aïeux, nous pouvons résoudre les problèmes qui nous attendent et construire un Cameroun plus fort et meilleur pour nos enfants et les enfants de leurs enfants. L’USDP est engagé à la construction d'une nouvelle nation où il y a l'amour profond et sincère de la patrie et la jouissance équitable de la promesse consacrée dans notre hymne national.

Nous sommes solidaires de la lutte que mènent courageusement les avocats et les enseignants camerounais, et regrettons profondément leur arrestation. Nous demandons en conséquence leur libération, car de notre point de vue, les actes qu’ils ont posés sont avant tout politiques, et non criminels,  ou, à défaut de cette libération, un procès juste et équitable dont nous sommes convaincus qu’ils sortiront vainqueurs.
